Financial Infrastructure
Definition
The complete system of financial models, processes, reporting mechanisms, and documentation that a company maintains to manage its financial position, support its operational decisions, and meet the expectations of its investors and governing body. Financial infrastructure is a continuous function, not a deliverable assembled for a specific event. The FFI Standard defines what compliant financial infrastructure contains at each stage and compliance level.
Common Misapplication
The most common misapplication is conflating financial infrastructure with financial statements or financial models. Financial infrastructure includes the models, the processes that produce and maintain them, the reporting that communicates them, the accounting integrity that underlies them, and the strategic planning that uses them.
