Investor Update
Definition
A periodic communication from the company to its existing investors reporting on financial performance, operational progress, key risks, and any material changes in the company's position since the last update. An investor update must include at minimum: cash position, net burn rate, cash runway, revenue for the period, gross margin, variance against plan, and a written commentary on any significant deviation from the operating plan.
Common Misapplication
The most common misapplication is sending investor updates that report only positive developments while omitting material negative developments. An investor update that omits a significant deterioration in cash runway or a material miss against revenue plan is inconsistent with the financial representation standards of the FFI Standard.
